The national differently-abled athletes grabbed 10 more gold medals in the 8th Asean Para Games being held in Singapore.
Chess players Menandro Redor topped the men’s individual rapid-B2/B3 and Sander Severino ruled men’s individual rapid-PI events. They also led the men’s team rapid-PI and men’s team rapid-B2/B3 to golden finishes.
Tracksters Jerrold Pete Macabio (men’s 200m-T52), Joel Balatucan (men’s shot put-F53/54/55) and Prudencia Del Mundo (women’s 200m-T53/54) added gold medals in their respective events as well as Adeline Ancheta (women’s over 86-kg.) in powerlifting, Ernie Gawilan (men’s 200m Individual Medley-SM8) in swimming and Josephine Medina (women’s singles Class 7-8) in table tennis.
Overall, the Philippines has 16 golds, 17 silvers and 26 bronzes to improve to sixth place in the medal tally. Thailand remains on top with 93-76-79 followed by Indonesia (81-74-63), Malaysia (52-57-37), Vietnam (48-58-50) and Singapore (24-17-21).
