• PH pays tribute to Nelson Mandela


    The United Nations (UN) Information Center Manila, The Philippine Center of the International Theater Institute, Earthsavers/UNESCO DREAM Center, and Rotary Club of Makati Business District in cooperation with the Senate of the Philippines paid tribute to former South African president Nelson Mandela through the event “In His Words: A Tribute to Nelson Mandela” on August 7 at the Senator Ambrosio Padilla Room in the Senate of the Philippines.

    Senate President Franklin Drilon and Senator Cynthia Villar graced the event and praised the leadership and life of Mandela. Drilon and Villar, along with other incumbent and former senators, read some excerpts of Mandela’s writings.

    An exhibition of Mandela’s writing was also opened. The ribbon cutting was lead by Drilon, Villar, South Africa Ambassador Agnes Nyamande-Pitso and United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator Praveen Agrawal, Cecille Guidote-Alvarez and Teresa Debuque, among others.

    This activity is done in observance of Nelson Mandela International Day. THE UN General Assembly declared the Nelson Mandela International Day to recognize the South African president’s contribution to the culture of peace and freedom.
