The national poomsae taekwondo team claimed three gold and five bronze medals to finish sixth overall in the prestigious 10th World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships held at the Villa Deportiva Nacional in Lima, Peru
Veteran campaigner Jeordan Dominguez topped the men’s freestyle poomsae individual Over 17 after registering 7.20 points to beat silver medalist Nguyen Dinh Khoi of Vietnam (7.06), and bronze winners Leandro Rodriguez of Colombia (7.00) and Oguzhan Mustafa Ornek of Turkey (6.82).
Ernesto Guzman also captured a gold in the men’s recognized poomsae Under 40 while the men’s team added another gold in the recognized poomsae Over 30 event of the tournament sanctioned by the World Tae kwon do Federation.
Winning bronze medals were Rodolfo Reyes Jr. in men’s recognized poomsae individual Under 30 and June Ninobla in men’s recognized poomsae individual Under 50, and the freestyle poomsae team Over 17, men’s team recognized poomsae Under 30 and the freestyle poomsae pairs Over 17.
More than 30 countries have participated in the four-day meet with powerhouse South Korea topping the medal board with eight gold, one silver and four bronze medals.
Turkey wound up second with 5-4-7 followed by the US with 4-5-11, China with 3-3-2 and Taiwan with 3-2-1.
The other members of the team were Jean Pierre Sabido, Dustin Jacob Mella, Raphael Enrico Mella, McAvynger Alob, Jerel Anthony Dalida, Mark Lorenz Balcita, Joel Lacsamana and Glenn Lava in the men’s division and Rinna Babanto, Juvenile Faye Crisostomo, Joecel Lyn Ninobla, Angelica Joyce Gaw, Janna Dominique Oliva, Elisabeth Cesista and Ailleach Dulce Amor Perez in the women’s category.
In the 2014 edition of the world meet held in Mexico, the Filipino jins earned three golds, two silvers and three bronzes.
