The Philippines posted two nerve-wracking victories in the classification stage of 2015 Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship being held at Tianjin Polytechnic University Gymnasium in Tianjin, China.
National University standout Myla Pablo delivered 26 points to power the Philippines to a come-from-behind 21-25, 18-25, 25-20, 25-16, 15-11 win over Hong Kong.
Mina Aganon chipped in 16 points; Jeanette Panaga added 10 markers and Iris Tolenada had 48 excellent sets for the squad.
The Filipinas followed it up with a 25-14, 19-25, 25-18, 25-17 victory over the Sri Lankans in the tournament sanctioned by the Asian Volleyball Confederation and International Volleyball Federation.
San Beda College’s Frances Molina topscored for the team with 19 while Pablo and Aganon provided the needed backup with 18 and 13, respectively.
They will be facing India in the next stage of the classification round. The winner will advance to the battle-for-ninth and the loser will fall to the battle-for-11th.
The Power Pinays, composed of Philippine Superliga players, were relegated to the classification round after finishing fourth in Pool D of the preliminary round.
They lost to Australia (18-25, 18-25, 26-24, 15-25), Kazakhstan (11-25, 10-25, 13-25) and South Korea (8-25, 7-25, 8-25) for a 0-3 record.
