PH pushed for protection of migrant workers during GFMD


The Philippine government asserted the need for the protection of migrant workers around the world during the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) held in Sweden, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Monday.

Citing reports from the Philippine Permanent Mission in Geneva, the Foreign Affairs department a Philippine delegation headed by Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Jesus Yabes encouraged Sweden “to [lead]the GFMD in encouraging countries of destinations to be more engaged on the issues of migrants protection.”

One of the major concerns of the GFMD, Yabes told Ambasador Eve Akerman Borje at the sidelines of the conference, is the “important of social protection of migrants.”
