PH retains title in Marina Bay Cup

Team Philippines led by skipper Ridgely Balladares successfully defended its crown in the recently concluded DBS Marina Bay Cup 2016 in Singapore.

The lone Philippine contingent almost had a near-perfect regatta with six wins and one loss. The lone defeat was handed by Team Alpha Racing of Australia.

Singapore Combined University Team led by third year Singapore Management University student Clement Lim copped the second-place honor with a 5-2 card while Malaysian teams Sime Darby Foundation and Team RSYC-DNN shared the third-place plum.

“I am very happy to have won this regatta because we did not expect to do so. From the start, we were aiming for the title but there were higher ranked teams ahead of us so we just took it one match at a time,” Balladares told Singapore Sailing TV.

The DBS Marina Bay Cup is an annual race that draws participant from Australia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore.
