The Philippine Canoe Kayak Dragonboat Federation (PCKDF) will begin their campaign in the 2016 International Canoe Federation (ICF) Dragon Boat World Championships today in Moscow, Russia.
The 29-man team will see action in six events – 200 meters, 500m and 2,000m distance category for seniors long and juniors short boat competitions.
The team is fresh from a two-gold medal finish in the 2016 Taiwan International Dragon Boat Championships.
Steerswoman Maribeth Caranto will lead the charge of the Filipino team composed of drummer Patricia Bustamante, Hermie Macarnas, OJ Fuentes, Angela Abanila, Racquel Almencion, John Paul Silencio, Fe Niuda, Norwell Cajes, Jordan De Guia, Fernan Dungan, Frank Feliciano, Alex Generalo, Rea Glore, Glaiza Liwag, Hermie Macaranas, Oliver Manaig, Ma Rosella Manatad, Reymart Nebado, Daniel Ortega, Rhea Roa and Robin Santos.
Seeing action in juniors class are Jane Abetona, Gabriel Boromeo, Rossel Burgos, Sheryl Caang, Lester Delos Santos, Rosalyn Esguerra, Jerome Solis, Roger Masbate and Christian Urz.
Over 20 countries are expected to join the tournament including powerhouse Russia, Canada and Poland.
The PCKDF is eyeing to duplicate its five-gold, three-silver, three-bronze output during the 2014 edition of the meet held in Poland.
After the world championships, the PCKDF team will compete in the 2016 Asian Dragonboat Championships to be held in Puerto Prinsesa City, Palawan in November.
