Veteran campaigners Jessie Aligaga and Jean Claude Saclag delivered gold medals for the country in the 7th World Wushu Federation Sanda World Cup held at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Aligaga dominated Chandra Singh Mayanglamban of India in the finals to rule the men’s 48-kilogram event of the tournament participated by more than 50 fighters from 18 countries.
He made it to the finals by ousting world champion Song Bu Er of China in the semifinals. Song was the same fighter who beat Aligaga in the finals of the 2013 World Wushu Championship.
“I’m happy I was able to get back at him [Song] and I would like to thank God for giving me again another chance putting myself into the limit. Thank you for everything. And to all who supported me. Just continue dreaming and your dream will become reality,” said Aligaga.
The 20-year-old Saclag, a silver medalist in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, outclassed Khaled Hotak Mohammad of Afghanistan to earn the gold medal in the men’s 60-kg.
Wushu Federation of the Philippines President Tan She Ling hailed the achievements of his ward, a fitting follow up to their two-silver, one-bronze showing in the 2014 Asian Games held in Incheon, South Korea.
