The Philippines completed a six-game sweep to clinch the men’s basketball gold medal in the 27th Southeast Asian Games at the Zaya Thiri Indoor Stadium in Nay Pyi Taw in Myanmar Sunday.
The team routed Malaysia, 84-56, in a no-bearing contest to take home the Philippines’ 16th basketball gold medal in the biennial meet.
The Filipinos demolished Singapore (88-75), Cambodia (107-57), host Myanmar (118-43), Thailand (100-68) and Indonesia (83-52) to assured themselves of the gold as early as Friday.
National University standout Bobby Ray Parks Jr. scored 18 points, Letran’s Kevin Alas 13 to lead the Filipinos.
Earlier, the Philippine women’s team turned back Indonesia, 55-45, and improve its win-loss record to 2-1.
