PH tracksters bag 6 gold medals in Thailand tilt


The national track and field squad scooped six golds, five silvers and one bronze in the ongoing 2013 Thailand Track and Field Championships being held at the Thammasat University Stadium in Bangkok.

Middle-distance runner Jessa Mangsat submitted 11 minutes and 10.08 seconds to rule the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, beating South Korean Lee Hyeon Ok who checked in at 11:11.46.

Palarong Pambansa standout Jenyrose Rosales added one gold by topping the girls’ 400m run in 55.87 seconds while Mary Lyn Avila dominated the girls’ 400-meter hurdles in 1:04.44.
Southeast Asian Games veteran Katherine Kay Santos also made her presence felt as she reigned supreme in the women’s long jump with a 5.99-meter showing while Arniel Ferrera (men’s hammer throw) and Evalyn Palabrica (girls’ javelin throw) chipped in gold medals in their respective events.

The silver medal winners were Junrey Bano (men’s 400m hurdles), Josie Malacad (women’s 400m hurdles), Julian Reem Fuentes (boys’ long jump), Indonesia SEA Games silver medalist Mervin Guarte (men’s 1,500 meter run) and Emerson John Obiena (men’s pole vault).

The lone bronze was delivered by Reyvieth Penarubia (girls’ 400-meter hurdles) in the tournament sanctioned by the International Athletics Associations Federations and Asian Athletics Association.
