The Philippine Rugby Under-19 national team will face South Korea in the first semifinals match of the 2016 U19 Asia Rugby Championships on December 14 at the International School of Manila.

The U19 team will be led by veterans Rhys Jacob Mackley, Kai Ledesma Stroem and Robert Benitez against No. 2 South Korea.

“Our team must really focus on the attack, defense and speed if we want to catch them up ,” said Junior Volcanoes assistant coach and current men’s volcano standout Jake Robrigado Letts on Tuesday during the weekly Philippine Sportswriters Association at Shakey’s Malate.

The Philippines-Korea game will kick off at 5 p.m. followed by the Singapore-United Arab Emirates match at 6:30 p.m.

The winners of both matches will collide in a gold medal match on December 17 at 2 p.m.

“I will give my best on that game to prove that I am fit for my position in the team and represent my country well,” said U19 National Development Team captain Kingsley Ballesteros of the Clark Jets.

His teammate Joshua Aragon is expecting South Korea to have a new game plan but is up to the challenge.

If they win, the U19 team will be promoted to a higher tier tilt where they will play against the top three rugby teams in Asia namely Japan, Sri Lanka and Taiwan.

The development team is under head coach David Johnston and Letts.

The Volcanoes had an impressive record in the tournament ruling the 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010 editions.
