The Philippines snagged its break-through win as it blanked Timor-Leste, 2-0, in the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Under-15 Youth Championship 2017 on Sunday at the Chonburi Campus Stadium 1 in Chonburi, Thailand.
The Boys’ Under-15 squad capitalized on Timor-Leste’s porous defense to score one goal in each half as it eclipsed the national youth team’s winless campaigns in the last two editions of the annual tournament.
Although already eliminated, the Filipino junior booters moved ahead of the bottom-dweller Timorese players with the maximum points.
Philippines’ striker John Rupert Asignar struck in the 15th minute and defender Yuki John Ferrer netted the second goal in the 58th.
Meanwhile, Vietnam stayed unbeaten after pulling off a 1-0 win over Malaysia in the battle of Group B leaders even as Brunei Darussalam stunned Cambodia, 2-0.
The Philippines takes on also-ran Brunei Darussalam for its last assignment at the Campus Stadium 2 in the final schedule of the group stage on Tuesday.
