The Philippine Bowling Team copped three gold, one silver and two bronze medals in the 30th Asian Intercity Bowling Championship held over the weekend at the Jaya Ancol Bowling Center in Jakarta, Indonesia.
National mainstay Lara Posadas spearheaded the country’s campaign by topping the centerpiece women’s masters event where she outclassed Vanessa Wong of Macau in the two-game championship round.
Posadas, a veteran of the prestigious World Cup, posted a 174-142 win in Game 1 then followed it up with a 193-156 victory in Game 2.
She advanced to the finals by ousting Li Qing of China in the Round-of-16 (209-195, 228-163), Iliya Syamin of Singapore in the Round-of-8 (258-216, 234-235, 213-200) and another Singaporean Tay Hui Wen in the semifinals (195-178, 173-203, 217, 215).
Posadas secured another gold in the all-events after collecting a total of 3,896 pinfalls on 1,223 in singles, 1,273 in doubles and 1,400 in team event, beating Singapore bets Joy Yap (3,783) and Amanda Lee (3,742), who settled for silver and bronze, respectively.
Posadas also steered the women’s squad to a golden finish in the team event. She connived with Krizziah Lyn Tabora, Anne Marie Kiac and Ma. Lourdes Arles in earning 4,919 pinfalls to beat silver winner Team Singapore (4,844) and bronze winner Team China (4,754).
Posadas and Tabora took the silver in the women’s doubles following their combined 2,490 pinfalls. Singaporeans Yap and Wen topped the event with 2,571 pinfalls while Kiac and Arles secured the bronze with 2,396 pinfalls.
Posadas went five-of-five in the tournament as she earned a bronze in the singles event dominated by Lee (1,259) and Yap (1,249).
