PH wrestlers win six medals in Bangkok meet


The national youth wrestling team bagged six medals in the 7th Southeast Asian Junior (18-20 years old) and Cadet (16-17 years old) Wrestling Championships held in Bangkok, Thailand.

Ifugao native Joshua Gayuchan led the charge of the junior wrestlers by winning two medals in the boys’ class. Gayuchan placed second in the 55-kilogram Greco-Roman junior then won a bronze medal in the 60-kg. freestyle junior category.

Michael Vijay Cater Sedano of Taytay, Kristine Jambora of New Era University, and Jason Jhaeysohn Saltin Baucas and Rosegyn Malabja of Baguio City contributed one bronze each in their respective weight classes.

Sedano wound up third in the boys’ 50-kg. Greco-Roman cadet but finished sixth in the 50-kg. freestyle cadet while Baucas secured a bronze in the boys’ 63-kg. freestyle cadet then placed seventh in the 63-kg. Greco-Roman cadet.

Jambora finished in third place in the 44-kg. female wrestling junior so as Malabja who earned a bronze in the 48-kg. female wrestling junior.

The other members of the team sent by the Wrestling Association of the Philippines were Minalyn Foy-os of Baguio City and Jefferson Manatad of Quezon City.

Foy-os fell short in the 55-kg. female wrestling cadet to settle for fifth place while Manatad was eighth in the boys’ 66-kg. freestyle wrestling cadet.
