The Philippines ended its campaign on a bright note as it battled Brunei Darussalam to a goalless draw in the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Under-15 Youth Championship 2017 on Tuesday at the IPE Chonburi Campus Stadium 2 in Chonburi, Thailand.
With the result, the Boys’ Under-15 national team finished fifth in Group B with four points on a 1-1-3 win-draw-loss record.
It was the best output of the Philippines so far in the five editions of the annual tournament.
The Filipino junior booters eclipsed the national youth squad’s previous cards of 0-2-3 last year, 0-0-4 in 2015, 1-0-3 in 2013 and 0-0-4 in 2011.
Meanwhile, Malaysia advanced to the knockout semifinals stage with a decisive 4-2 win over Cambodia even as group leader Vietnam trounced cellar-dweller Timor-Leste, 4-0.
Malaysia faces Thailand, which topped Group A, while Vietnam takes on Australia at the resumption of the competition on Thursday.
