INTEGRATING affordable drug rehabilitation treatment is one of PhilHealth’s priority benefit packages, but the agency board is still mulling over its coverage, PhilHealth President Alexander Padilla said on Friday.
“Mandate talaga ng PhilHealth na magkaroon ng benefit package. Hindi lang kami magkasundo kung ano yun dahil napakalaki ng relapse rate which is over 50 percent [It is PhilHealth’s mandate to include it in our benefit package. We’re still in the process of studying the relapse rate which is over 50%],” Padilla said.
Based on the latest statistics released by the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), around 1.7 million Filipinos use drugs and other illegal substances.
The PhilHealth Board, however, is still working out the inclusions of the drug rehab coverage.
“Will we cover marijuana use? Heroin use? These are some of the things we are still discussing because each substance has different medication,” Padilla said.
“Hirap din ang PhilHealth kasi [ayaw namin na]nagbabayad kami ng nagbabayad pero wala namang nangyayari [PhilHealth is also having a hard time because the agency keeps on paying but nothing seems to happen],” he added.
