French interior designer unveils collaboration with Ipanema
His is a success story is proof that creativity can take you anywhere you want to be.

In ‘70s, school dropout Philippe Starck jump-started his career by designing two nightclub interiors in Paris. This project lead him to then President Francois Mitterand who, upon seeing the nightclub, commissioned Starck to refurbish a private aparment inside the Elysee Palace.

Two years later, the French designer quickly rose to fame what with project after project like designing the interiors of the Café Costes, Paris, of the Royalton and Paramount hotels in New York, the Delano in Miami and the Mondrian in Los Angeles. It naturally came for Starck to begin producing chairs, lamps, motorbikes, boats and a line of house wares and kitchen utensils, like his Juicy Salif for Alessi. Soon Starck became known in the industryafor his simple yet inventive style.

Fast forward to 2016, Starck found himself collaborating once more with yet another world-renowned brand, Ipanema.


Named after the 67-year-old designer, “Starck” is described as a new collection that reimagines footwear. Starck lends his talent for minimal and organic design to re-envision a collection of modern, elegant sandals accessible to purveyors of stylish and smart innovation worldwide.

“The Ipanema with Starck collection explores the territory of high elegance paired with the utmost minimalism. When you reach elegance with a few dollars or euros, this is no longer magic; it is a modern miracle,” says Philippe Starck.

Manila recently got to meet Starck in a stylish fashion launch.

“We are truly privileged to team up with the world-renowned creator and creative genius Philippe Starck in this new collaboration,” says Cecille Loretizo, Elro Retail Corp. marketing head. “This partnership will certainly bring timeless, accessible yet elegant line up of footwear for the modern, sophisticated women in the country and across the globe.”

With that, Loretizo hopes that Starck could satiate Manila style denizens’ hunger for stylish sandals especially during the season.
