After coming up short in their first game, the Philippine Army Lady Troopers hammered out a 25-22, 25-15, 25-27, 25-18 victory over Team Cignal on Wednesday in the Pilipinas Super Liga Invitationals at The Arena in San Juan.
After 17-all deadlock in the fourth set, the Lady Troopers unleashed an eight-to-one scoring blast to seal their first win in the post-collegiate volleyball league.
Nerissa Bautista led the charge for the Philippine Army with 16 points with 11 attacks, while Joanne Bunag tallied 15 attacks and Michelle Carolino added 11.
Tina Salak had all of Army’s 31 excellent sets and also added three blocks.
Army had a chance to close out the game in the third after tying the game at 25 but Venus Bernal had an easy kill to keep Cignal alive.
Bernal shone bright for Team Cignal with her 24 points with 21 attacks while Honey Royce Tubino added 11 attacks.
With the win, Army moved to the top of the standings with four points while Team Cignal settles for three points with the same card.
