The national junior tae kwon do team bagged three gold, two silver and 10 bronze medals in the 2015 Asian Junior and Cadet Poomsae Tae kwon do Championships held at the University of Taipei in Taiwan.
Veronica Garces topped the -42 kgs. junior female in the sparring event while Raymond Alombro 3rd settled for silver in the -46 kgs. junior male of the tournament participated by South Korea, Iran, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Japan and Singapore.
Winning bronze medals were Mayn Yengele Coran (-44 kgs. junior female), Marie Jennevive De Asis (-49 kgs. junior female), Harley Vincent Santos (-59 kgs. junior male) and Paul Adrian Cham (-63 kgs. junior male).
The gold medals in poomsae were from cadet men’s team and cadet male individual freestyle events then silver in the junior freestyle mixed team class. The junior individual female, junior team male, junior individual male freestyle, junior mixed pair freestyle, cadet mixed pair and cadet female team earned bronzes in their respective events.
“It’s a job well done for the Philippine national junior tae kwon do team [we ranked]third overall in the Asian Cadet Championships. Huge thanks to all our supporters and prayer warriors,” said national poomsae head coach Jean Pierre Sabido.
The Philippine Tae kwon do Association now shitfs its focus on the team’s campaign for the 2015 Southeast Asian Games in June in Singapore. The Filipino jins are aiming to surpass their four-gold, four-silver, six-bronze medal haul in the 2013 edition in Myanmar.
