Philippine rowers cop bronze in Savan Sprints


The Filipino Dragons settled for a lone bronze medal in the 2016 Savan Sprints International Dragon Boat Championship held at the Kallang Riverside in Singapore.

Paddling against some of the world’s best rowers, the Filipino Dragons were lucky enough to bag the third place honors in the mixed 20-crew event after crossing the finish line in 52.876 seconds.

Germany’s Dragon-A pocketed the gold medal in 50.628 second while US’ American Dragons secured the silver with a time of 51.322 seconds.

Singapore’s Red Dot Paddle Club bagged three gold medals (seniors mixed 12-crew, seniors open 12-crew and premier open 20-crew) while TJ Seahawk Dragon Boat Team gained two golds (club crew open 12-crew and club crew 20-crew).

The other gold medal winners were Singapore Management University Crew (premier mixed 20-crew), National University of Singapore (tertiary men 20-crew), Asia Dragons (corporate open 12-crew) and Singapore Paddle Club (premier women 12-crew).

Meanwhile, Philippine Navy Dragon Boat Team copped two gold medals in the Philippine Canoe-Kayak Dragonboat Federation Paddles Up Leg 4 held in Subic.

The Navy paddlers topped the women’s division and mixed event while Sagwan Tanauan dominated the men’s category.
