Share prices opened in Manila higher on Monday morning in anticipation of the new president, Rodrigo Duterte, announcing measures in his first State of the Nation Address in the afternoon that will fire up people’s confidence and boost economic growth.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) gained 64.59 points (0.81 percent) within the first 15 minutes into trading, reaching 8,089.94 points, while the broader All Shares index climbed 31.56 point (0.66 percent) to 4,825.59.
