• Philippine team wins Malaysia rapid team chess



    Team Philippines ruled the 33rd Astro Merdeka Rapid Open Team Chess Championship-10th Malaysian Chess Festival in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

    Team Philippines blasted Singapore in the final round to complete its domination in the nine-round tournament. The Filipino woodpushers wrapped up their campaign with a total score of 17 points.

    Malaysia came in second with 16 points while two Indonesian teams shared the third spot with identical 15-point outputs.

    Grandmaster elect and 2003 Asian zonal champion Ronald Dableo spearheaded the team’s campaign along with FIDE Masters Christopher Castellano and Roderick Nava, and Ivan Gil Biag.

    In 2009, the Philippines ended up seventh overall then placed fifth in the 2010 edition and third in 2012.
