• Philippine tracksters win 26 medals in Thailand meet

    The national track and field squad wrapped up its campaign with 10 golds, 10 silvers and six bronzes in the 2013 Thailand Track and Field Championships held at the Thammasat University Stadium in Bangkok.

    Indonesia Southeast Asian Games silver medalist Mervin Guarte delivered the 10th gold of the country on the final day of competition when he topped the men’s 800-meter run in one minute and 50.91 seconds. Jordan Paul Billones placed third in that event with 1:52.00.

    Harry Diones chipped in one silver in the men’s triple jump of the event sanctioned by the International Athletics Associations Federations and Asian Athletics Association.

    Other gold medalists are Isidro del Prado Jr., Edgardo Alejan, Julius Nierras and Archand Christian Bagsit (men’s 4×400-meter relay), Katherine Kay Santos (women’s long jump), Avila (girls’ 400m hurdles), Jessa Mangsat (women’s 3000m steeplechase), Jennyrose Rosales (women’s 400m), Evalyn Palabrica (girls’ javelin throw), Arniel Ferrera (men’s hammer throw), Alejan (men’s 400-meter run) and Riezel Buenaventura (women’s pole vault),

    The silver medals were from Mary Lyn Avila, Josie Malacad, Reyvieth Penarubia and

    Rosales (women’s 4x400m), Ernest John Obiena (boys’ pole vault), Guarte (men’s 1,500m), Junrey Bano (men’s 400m hurdles), Malacad (women’s 400m hurdles and women’s 400m run), Julian Reem Fuentes (boys’ long jump), Bagsit (men’s 400m run) and Rosie Villarito (women’s javelin throw) while the bronze winners were Mangsat (women’s 5,000m run), Peñarubia (girls’ 400m hurdles), Loralie Sermona (women’s hammer throw), Eliezer Sunang (men’s shot put), and Hanelyn Loquinto, Santos, Rosales and Princess Joy Griffith (women’s 4x100m relay).
