Philippines exits Asian Under-23 Women’s Volleyball


The Philippines bowed out of contention following its 25-23, 14-25, 19-25, 17-25 loss to powerhouse China in the quarterfinals of the 1st Asian Under-23 Women’s Volleyball Championship on Thursday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City. China arranged a semifinal showdown with South Korea while the Philippines will be relegated to the classification round where it could only finish as high as fifth place. South Korea earned a spot in the Final Four after surviving Taiwan, 16-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-14, 15-10, while Japan overpowered India, 25-17, 25-17, 25-14, to advance to the semifinals.  Japan will be facing the winner between Thailand and Iran. The top two teams in the tournament will be given automatic berths to the prestigious World Women’s Under-23 Volleyball Championship in Ankara, Turkey.
