Philippines’ Karen Ibasco wins Miss Earth 2017

THE PHILIPPINES Karen Ibasco was crowned Miss Earth 2017 on Saturday night, besting 86 other candidates in the pageant that was held in Manila.

Completing her court were:
Miss Earth Fire: Lada Akimova (Russia)
Miss Earth Water: Juliana Franco (Colombia)
Miss Earth Air: Nina Robertson (Australia)

Before the coronation night, Ibasco was the leading candidate, winning three gold and two silver medals in the pre-pageant competition, according to the pageant’s official website.

She won the gold medal for the Asia Pacific National Costume category, Darling of the Press, and Group 2 Swimsuit Competition.

She also bagged silver medals for Resorts Wear Competition and Long Gown Competition.

Ibasco won Miss Philippines Earth on July 15 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, the same venue of the international event.

Ibasco is a medical physicist and physics professor at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) where she graduated cum laude.
