The Philippine Under-19 National Football Team will start its campaign in the 2016 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U19 Championship with a game against Timor Leste at the Hang Day Stadium in Vietnam at 4 p.m. today.
The Filipino squad, which is composed of college standouts, will be playing in Group A of the regional championship together with Malaysia, Singapore, Timor Leste, and host Vietnam.
They have to play four games in the preliminary round to earn a chance to clinch one of the two spots for the knockout stages.
The Philippines will be playing against Malaysia on September 13 for their second game followed by a match vs host Vietnam on September 15, and Singapore on September 17.
The members of the 23-man team according to the roster released by the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) are University of the Philippines standouts Jeremiah Borlongan, Kintaro Miyagi, Kyle Magdato and Miguel Clarino, Mark Winhoffer, who plays for Global FC in the United Football League as well as Michael Asong, Kenry Balobo, Patrick Bernarte, Mar Diano, Major Ebarle, Lorenzo Genco, Jumbel Guinabang, Jordan Jarvis, Paulo Javier, Earl Laguerta, Christian Lapas, Mark Magtoto, Jerome Marzan, Josh Miller, Julian Miranda, James Oberiano, Patrick Valenzuela and Moses Webb.
Dan Padernal is the team’s head coach while Marlon Pinero and Bernard Lelis are his assistants.
The Philippines bowed out of the group phase with a record of one win and three losses during the 2015 edition of the AFF U19 Championship.
