THE Philippine Postal Corp. (PhilPost) will upgrade the postal ID card from a paper to a plastic biometric card with additional security features.
The PhilPost marketing head, Enrique Tagle, on Wednesday said Postmaster General Ma. Josefina Dela Cruz had signed a joint venture agreement with Filmetrics for the “migration” of the new postal ID card.
“We want it [postal ID card]to be standardized. We want the postal ID card to be a recognized compliant ID card,” Tagle added.
Tagle explained that there is a need to upgrade the postal ID card to a plastic one so that it will be widely accepted as a way to identify the bearer of the card.
He said the postal ID card is the first-level entry ID card of any Filipino citizen.
Among the security features that will be included in the new postal ID card are the biometrics and photo-scanned electronic picture of the bearer.
Tagle said the new postal ID card would be made available three months after the signing of a contract with Filmetrics.
