• PHILRICE WARNS FARMERS VS. FAKE SEEDS

    0

THE Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) has reported the “rampant unauthorized use” of its sacks in Nueva Vizcaya and Isabela and cautioned farmers to be more careful in buying seeds. Dr. Eufemio Rasco Jr, PhilRice executive director, said there were sacks with bogus PhilRice “brand” and “certification” tags. A PhilRice fact finding committee said that hybrid rice seeds purported to be from the institute were mixed with other varieties and sold at P6,000 per 20-kilogram sack. Rasco said the PhilRice-produced hybrid rice seeds cost only P195 a kilo and that they sell “registered seeds” to growers who in turn produce certified seeds which are sold to farmers. “But rest assured that we are after entities and we have also asked the authorities to further investigate,” he said.
