The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Saturday reported a total of Php6.6 million worth of assistance to the province of Albay to meet the needs of families who evacuated from their homes as a result of the increasing unrest of Mt. Mayon in Legazpi City.
According to DSWD Secretary Corazon J. Soliman, the said assistance was in the form of assorted food items, family food packs, non-food items and other essential hygiene kits needed by the evacuees while they are away from their home.
Soliman also added that food and non-food items worth Php8.5 million consisting of 1,890 sacks of NFA rice; 10,000 pieces of malong; 10,000 pieces of mosquito nets; 10,000 pieces of plastic mats; and, 10,000 pieces of dust masks were turned over to DSWD-Field Office V by DSWD’s National Resource Operations Center (NROC) in Pasay City.
NROC is the command center and national warehouse of DSWD where disaster operations are monitored, and relief goods are stored and re-packed.
As of today, about 29 evacuation centers remain open which serves a total of 7,394 families or equivalent to 32,333 individuals.
Soliman added that members of the Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) Teams remain in alert status as they continue to coordinate with disaster risk reduction management councils and local government units in monitoring the situation and determining the scope of assistance needed in the smooth management of evacuation centers in Albay.
