Team Lakay mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly will battle Dutch-Indonesian veteran Vincent Latoel in ONE: Titles and Titans today at the Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Fighting out of Baguio City, Kelly will pit his skills against Latoel in a three-round featherweight bout.
“I know that he is a very good striker with lots of power. It will be an interesting matchup between us two. That’s why I’m laser-focused on training. He beat Eddie Ng, who is a top contender, by knockout, so that says a lot about his capabilities,” said Kelly in a statement.
Kelly has 13 wins and three losses while Loatel has a 16-17-2 win-loss-draw card.
The Filipino fighter said facing Latoel would be one of his toughest fights yet.
Kelly is coming off an impressive first-round rear-naked choke victory over the 22-year-old Jordan Lucas in March.
“When I found out I would be fighting Jordan Lucas, I grabbed the opportunity right away. It was a big opportunity for me to fight a great fighter. I was excited; it was a good performance for me. I learned to be as calm as possible in fights. I hope I can do the same against Latoel,” Kelly said.
Another Team Lakay standout, Eduard Foloyang, who defeated Loatel by decision in 2013, has an advice to his teammate Kelly.
“He (Folayang) said that I should just relax and loosen up, not be so tense in the fight. I think both Vincent and me have our strengths and weaknesses; we both have our own game plans. I just want to keep improving as a fighter and do my best in the cage,” Kelly concluded.
The five-round main event of the evening will feature the return of Luis “Sapo” Santos of Brazil against former ONE middleweight world champion Igor “Lionheart” Svirid of Kazakhstan.
