PH’s Saludar clips Kazakh for second victory

FILIPINO pug Rey Saludar notched his second win in the 27th Asian Elite Men’s Championships at the Amman Boxing Arena in Jordan by beating Kazakhstan’s Ilyas Suleimenov on Wednesday.

Saludar, 24, dominated the 22-year-old Suleimenov 29-28, 29-28 and 28-29, in a three-round flyweight match. He will next fight Tanes Ongjunta of Thailand on Friday. The Thai beat Saudi Arabia’s Samer Humaidi in the other flyweight match.

Saludar, of Polomolok South Cotabato, fought impressively in the first two rounds peppering the Kazakhs with strong left hooks and upper cuts. Although Saludar fought with lesser aggressiveness in the last round, Suleimenov was clearly outclassed.

“Saludar fought very aggressive and we’re expecting that win,” said Alliance of Boxing Associations of the Philippines executive director Ed Picson.

Another Philippine bet, 20-year-old Rogen Ladon, will take on Hasan Naser of Iraq on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila).
