Filipino Patrick John Tierro posted a come-from-behind 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 win over Adam Sanjurjo Hermida of Spain to reach the singles quarterfinals of the $15,000 International Tennis Federation Philippine Men’s Futures on Thursday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Manila.
Tierro, who defeated compa–triot Calvin Charles Canlas in the first round, will be facing the victorious between fourth seed Roberto Ortega-Olmedo of Spain and Carlos Boluda-Purkiss also of Spain.
Tierro is the only Filipino standing in the single play as Davis Cup veteran Johnny Arcilla was ousted by fifth pick Andrew Whittington of Austra–lia, 4-6, 2-6, in their second-round match.
In doubles, Tierro and Filipino-Italian partner Marc Reyes lost to No. 3 Christopher Rungkat of Indonesia and Chen Ti of Taiwan, 3-6, 3-6, while Arcilla and Kyle Joshua Dandan succumbed to Hermida and Shuichi Sekiguchi of Japan, 4-6, 6-3, 5-10.
Not as fortunate were Elbert Anasta and Pablo Olivarez Jr. following a 4-6, 2-6 loss to li Hei Yin Andrew of Hong Kong and Yu Cheng-Yu of Taiwan.
Filipino-American Ruben Gonzales and Sonchat Ratiwatana were scheduled to play Hermida and Sekiguchi in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
