Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach will don the hat of a reporter next month when she will be covering the Super Bowl as a special correspondent for Inside Edition, a syndicated news magazine.
The Super Bowl is scheduled on February 7.
It is the annual championship game of the National Football League, the highest level of professional football in the United States.
The Super Bowl is also the most-watched sporting event on US television, with the 2015 edition seen by 114.4 million viewers in the US alone.
On its video announcement via Facebook, Inside Edition said, “Pia Wurtzbach was crowned in December, and now she’s adding a new title. She’s making her debut as a special correspondent during the Super Bowl for Inside Edition. It’s the first time Miss Universe, who hails from the Philippines, will experience America’s biggest sporting event of the year. Wurtzbach will be behind the scenes at events leading up to the big game and she’ll also take viewers to game day coverage.”
Wurtzbach earlier appeared on Inside Edition when she gave the show a tour around the Miss Universe apartment in New York.
Wurtzbach confirmed the report on Tuesday.
“I’m very excited,” she told Palace reporters after her courtesy call on President Benigno Aquino 3rd.
The 26-year-old beauty said it is a “great compliment” to be chosen as a correspondent.
“I see it as a compliment because they wouldn’t trust me with the microphone if they didn’t think that I could do well or speak [well]. So I think that’s a pretty good sign.”
“So it’s a great way of me connecting to more people, meeting new people and being recognized not just as Miss Universe, not just as Pia but also as a Filipina,” she added.
