Manila Piano, the
Philippine’s largest piano center owned by Dutch businessman Willem Van Suijdam and Canadian piano engineer Michael Ierullo, was inaugurated on September 6.
Located at the second floor of the CW Home Depot on Pasong Tamo, Makati City, the store has a big gallery showcasing brand new and used pianos from high end brands like Steinway, Bosendorfer, Fazioli, Pearl River, Schummel, Yamaha, and Kawai, among others. It also restores old pianos and sells digital pianos for children.
Fr. Marciano ”Rocky” Evangelista, SDB, of Don Bosco and Tuloy Foundation blessed the store after the traditional ribbon cutting by the owners along with guests Chavit Singson, Cory Quirino, Dra. Ellen Binay, Rep. Imelda Marcos, and Gina Ronquillo.
After the tour of the showroom, guests were led to the third floor, which was beautifully decorated with multicolored lights. About 300 guests from the diplomatic, business, society and piano enthusiasts attended the opening.
The program, emceed by Johnny Litton, started with a welcome speech by Van Suidjam. The entertainment numbers were provided by concert pianist Ingrid Sala Santamaria and Jonathan Cu both accompanied by the Manila Symphony Orchestra. A solo organ number by Van Suijdam himself was also heard.
Guests also enjoyed a special performance by children of Tuloy Foundation. The foundation Tuloy was the beneficiary of part of the special sale of the pianos that night.
The highlight of the launch was a piece de resistance of Van Suijdam conducting the Manila Symphony Orchestra together with soprano Jamie Sampana .The second part of the program was a jam of popular balladeer Arthur Manuntag and movie actor and director Ricky Davao.
