The Philippine Girls Under-16 Na- tional Football Team will resume their campaign in the Asian Football Confederation U16 Women’s Championship 2017 qualifiers as they face the Lady Ayuyus of Northern Mariana Islands at the Luneng Football School in Weifang, China today.
The Filipinas are coming off a 2-0 conquest of India in their opening game. San Carlos City, Negros Occidental standout Tejanee Isulat scored a goal in the sixth minute followed by a conversion by Andie Tiongson in the 75th that sealed the win for the Philippines.
The Filipinas are playing in Group B in the preliminary round with Malaysia, South Korea, India and Northern Mariana Islands.
They are currently holding the provisional top spot in Group B with a one-point advantage against second seeds Malaysia that beat Northern Mariana Islands 2-1, on opening day.
The Philippines needs to hurdle past two more opponents in the group phase before having a chance to earn a berth to the knockout stage.
They will face Asian football powerhouse South Korea on September 3 and Southeast Asian neighbor Malaysia on September 6.
North Korea, China, Thailand, and Japan have already qualified for the final tournament that will be staged in China on September 2017.
