World champion Rubilen Amit leaves on Friday to compete in the 2014 Guangzhou Open scheduled on March 23 to 26 in China.
The tournament is a 9-Ball event, which is expected to lure participants from Great Britain, Austria, Taiwan, South Korea and host China. Former world champions Austrian Jasmin Ouschan and British Kelly Fisher are among the top contenders in the four-day meet.
China will parade world ranked No. 2 Yu Han, Liu Sha Sha, Chen Siming, Pan Xiao-Ting, Fu Xiao-Fang, Bi Zhu-Qing, Gao Meng and Wu Jing.
“I got invited to compete in this tournament and I think it’s going to be a tough one since all players are capable of winning the title especially that players from Europe are coming as well as some great Asian players,” said the 32-year-old Amit, who ruled the World 10-Ball Championship twice (2013 and 2009).
“I just need to take it one game at a time and stay focused all throughout the competition,” she added.
Amit is fresh from a third-place finish in the 2014 Amway WPA (World Pool-Billiard Association) Women’s 9-Ball World Open in Taipei, Taiwan.
From fifth place last year, Amit is currently ranked third in the WPA world ranking after amassing 13,840 points.
