This year, two Filipina finalists are representing the country at the ongoing Cycle 2 of Asia’s Next Top Model (ANTM). They are Jodilly Ignacio Pendre and Katarina Sonja Rodriguez who unleashed the Filipina prowess in their quest to win the coveted title.

Last week, ANTM principal sponsor, TRESemme, introduced Jodilly and Katarina at a press conference at Brasseri Girolle in Bonifacio Global City.

The two finalists were bursting with excitement to take part in Asia’s most prestigious modelling search.

In a brief chat with The Manila Times, Jodilly gushed, “It’s just fantastic. There were many things I experienced for the first time.”

The towering 20-year-old also shared how she began modeling at a young age to build a portfolio comprised of top ramp shows.

This background, plus her very Filipina features—morena skin and jet-black hair—gave Jodilly an edge during the competition’s taping.

On the contrary, Katarina was a first-timer in modeling when she joined ANTM 2. Confident nonetheless, she used her lack of experience as her “advantage.”

She explained, “I am not an experienced model so everything is new to me. But because I do not have a professional background unlike my fellow contestants, I take everything with an open mind. I listen to what the mentors tell me.”

Katarina previously worked for glossies and style editorials before deciding to walk the runway herself. She is also an athlete.

In a show of support, Filipina supermodel Joey Mead King, the show’s model mentor, and TRESemme endorser Lourd Ramos who appears as guest hairstylist and judge in several espisode, graced the ladies’ presentation to media. TRESemme Philippines brand manager Ann Esteves was also in attendacne.

At the program’s Q&A, Joey was asked what made Jodilly and Katarina stand out among the other Asian models. She replied,
“They are always so respectful and grateful and that’s what made them very memorable. Also, they have a little spark of humor.”

For his part, Lourd shared how fun it was for him to be part of ANTM while trying to be fair to all the contestants.  He knew that as a judge he could not favor the Filipina bets.

The Manila Times finally asked how the pair of moving mannequins helped one another, if they did, even if they were vying for the same title.

Katarina replied, “On the first episode, I fell while walking at the runway. Jodilly was the first person who saw and approached me. When she came, that’s when I realized that I was wounded and bleeding.”

Jodilly confirmed, “I immediately gave her tissue [to cover the wound]and called for help.”

Unable to share more than this particular incident, which already aired on ANTM’s January 8 premiere, the two could only say that viewers will see how their friendship blossomed in the coming episode.

Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 2 oirs on StarWorld every Wednesday at 9:40 p.m., and on TV5 every Thursday at 9 p.m.
