Filipina boxer Jujeath “Bad Girl” Nagaowa will try to snatch the World Boxing Organization female atomweight title when she takes on Japanese Nao Ikeyama in a 10-round bout on Saturday in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
“Kung puso, ready na kami at practice wise,” the 28-year old Nagaowa told The Manila Times.
The 46-year old Ikeyama, known to be a volume puncher, is set to defend her title for the fourth time.
But Nagaowa is unfazed.
“Kung sumuntok siya ng 10, kung pwede ay suklian namin ng 20, bakit hindi? (If she throws 10 punches, we can even throw 20 punches in return, why not?),” Nagaowa stressed. Nagaowa’s coach Joven Jorda expressed optimism saying “handang-handa na siya [Jujeath], yung laban na lang hinihintay namin.”
In June, Nagaowa got an offer to fight in Macau and evetually won the World International Boxing Association title against Chinese Yu Jue Luo. Besides boxing, Nagaowa practices mixed martial arts (MMA) and currently signed with ONE Championship. Nagaowa began her MMA career last year and how holds a professional MMA record of two wins and two losses. JEAN RUSSEL V. DAVID
