• Pinay pugs notch wins in SEA Games

Josie Gabuco and Irish Magno started the country’s campaign in boxing on a bright note on Saturday after beating their respective rivals in 28th SEA Games at the Expo Hall of the Sports Hub in Singapore. The three-time SEA Games gold medalist Gabuco whipped Indonesia’s Beatrich Aldriani Sugoro, 3-0, to reach the women’s lightweight semifinals. The 23-year-old Magno scored another 3-0 victory over another Indonesian, Novita Sinadia, to also assure herself a bronze medal in the women’s flyweight class. Gabuco is the emerging favorite when she clashes with Singapore’s Hui Leona in Monday’s semifinals while Magno is set to face Thai Sopida Satumrum.
