A FILIPINO woman who stabbed three persons in Belgium and was shot by police is in a coma, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Thursday.
The woman attacked two people on a bus and one at a restaurant in the capital city of Brussels.
Police said the Filipina was told to surrender but she refused, forcing policemen to shoot her.
The woman, whose identity was not released, was taken to a hospital.
Two of her victims suffered serious injuries, while one had a minor cut.
Police believe that the woman was mentally ill.
“The Filipina is now out of danger,” Charles Jose, spokesman of the DFA, said. “She will be undergoing an exam to determine her mental health.”
Jose said the DFA will extend assistance to the woman depending on the result of the psychiatric test and if authorities will file charges.
“The woman will be charged with attempted murder if proven that she is mentally stable. We will then provide legal assistance,” he said.
Belgium is on high alert following a string of terrorist attacks.
