Ateneo De Manila University’s Alyssa Valdez posted 19 points from 16 kills and three service points, Jaja Santiago added 12 points and Grethcel Soltones nine points for the Philippines.
“We just have to give our best although we just trained together for only three weeks,” said Philippines’ national head coach Roger Gorayeb.
“Kazakhstan is taller that’s why we need a lot of energy. We are all happy that we scored a win in this tournament.”
Yana Yagodina led Kazakhstan with 18 points.
The Philippines, with a 1-1 win-loss record, joined Iran in the Group A quarterfinals. The Philippines lost to Iran in the opener on Friday.
