JEAN Marc Pingris’ strong offensive game powered Purefoods to a convincing 99-83 win over Barako Bull in the Philippine Basketball Association Season 40 Philippine Cup at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City on Tuesday. With the victory, the Hotshots reached the playoff round.
The 6’5 power forward Pingris, finished with 20 points plus five rebounds and four assists. Guard Peter June Simon added 16 points, forward Joe Devance 12, playmaker Marc Barroca 10, James Yap nine and Yousef Taha eight.
The Hotshots win-loss record improved to 6-5 while the Energy Colas’ fell to 4-7.
JC Intal led Barako with 20 points.
Purefoods could play against Ginebra or Meralco on Thursday in the quarterfinals but needs to beat them twice in the playoff on Thursday at same venue.
“I’ve been very vocal in the past that I think it’s a great disservice to teams getting knocked out because of quotient. I think it’s a bad rule, a bad setup. I think it’s a really unfair setup. The whole idea is reward the best teams but you can’t determine it just by quotient,” said Purefoods head coach Tim Cone.
“Quotient doesn’t decide who’s better who’s worst, hope in the future they think about it, I don’t know what we’re rushing for.”
