CEBU CITY: The Philippine College of Surgeons—Cebu Eastern Visayas Chapter (PCS-CEVC) and the Philippine Society of General Surgeons-Cebu Eastern Visayas Chapter (PSGS-CEV) will stage the 10th edition of Pink October Run on October 16 at Cebu Business Park.
The fun run is part of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“The goal of the run is to encourage everyone to get early examination. Survival rate is higher if it’s detected early,” said physician Ron del Mar.
Physician Marilou Viray, president of PCS-CEVC, said part of the activity was the forum, which would give people a better understanding of breast cancer.
The event has three categories — the men’s and women’s 12-kilometer, 6K and 3K. Organizer physician Peter Mancao said that this year, they added three divisions.
“What’s new for this year is the addition of 6K medical students, 6K for Rotarians and 3K group run,” he said.
“The 6K for medical students will get the students involved with regards to physical fitness and make them one of the campaigners for breast cancer awareness,” he said.
Mancao said the 6K Rotarians is exclusive to the members of Rotary Club, while the 3K group run will be composed of five runners per group.
The group must start and finish together tied on a pink ribbon.
