• Pinoy bets struggle in Taipei Tae kwon do meet


    Four more Filipino jins were eliminated in the 2014 World Junior Tae kwon do Championships being held at the Taipei Arena in New Taipei City, Taiwan.

    Gian Carlo Gutierrez almost made it to the Last 8 of the boys’ flyweight category but he absorbed a heartbreaking 3-4 decision to Mo’ath Alqatawneh of Jordan in their Last 16 match. Gutierrez posted early wins against Giorgi Khurtsilava of Georgia (3-0) and Taghi Taghizade of Azerbaijan (17-5).

    Ryel Joshua Ramirez (boys’ bantamweight), Bea Muriel Go (girls’ middleweight) and Michael Laurence Licudine (boys’ middleweight), meanwhile, lost in their respective first-round games.

    Daniel Chiovetta of Germany ousted Ramirez (6-2), Axelle Attoumani Briand of France defeated Go (17-12) and Jeisson Serrano of Colombia trounced Licudine (5-2).

    Christian Mark Duntugan (finweight), Ryel Joshua Ramirez (bantam), Alfred Jason Abanto (light), John Christian Mapalo (light middle), John Michael Agno (light heavy), Irene Therese Bermejo (fin), Cleio Marie Banez (fly) and Gabrielle Hernandez (light middle) will be gunning for medals when they see action in their events.

    Aaron James Galita, Francesca Arianne Agojo, Alejandro Joel Felipe, Stephanie Osio, Brighty Rio Marie Salazar, Colleen Heria, Ma. Kaye Shannelle Romuar, King Philip Pineda, Gian Francis Rubio and Leslie Marie Agyamoc were the first casualties in the tournament sanctioned by the World Tae kwon do Federation.

    The Philippines won three bronze medals in the 2013 edition of the tournament held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
