Filipino kegler Benshir Layoso is ranked No. 3 after the first phase of the 49th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup men’s qualifying round being held at the Sibiryak center in Krasnoyarsk, Russia.
The 44-year-old Layoso rolled 1,479 pins on 246, 228, 279, 277, 244 and 205 in the six-game first block of the qualifying.
Peter Hellstrom of Sweden is leading the pack with 1,543 pins (267, 267, 279, 236, 236 and 258) followed by William Ching of Venezuela with 1,495 pins (226, 257, 276, 235, 277 and 224).
Rounding out the Top 10 are No. 4 Vincent Cayez of France (1,478), Bodo Konieczny of Germany (1,468), Alex de Vries of the Netherlands (1,437), Dimitri Chilkine of Belarus (1,436), Mykhaylo Kalika of Ukraine (1,436), Alexei Parshukov of Russia (1,429) and Sonith Lockhart of Bahamas (1,427).
The tournament employs a four-block (six games in each block) qualifying stage. The second block is scheduled on Tuesday, third block on Wednesday and the final block on Thursday.
The Top 24 after the four-block qualifying round will advance into the next round.
The Top 24 and the quarterfinal games will be on Friday while the semifinals and finals are slated on Saturday.
Mades Arles, the country’s representative in the women’s division, was still playing in the first block of the qualifying round as of press time.
