Team Lakay head coach and trainer Mark Sangiao admonishes his fighters to excel in the very first Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Fight Night in Manila on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Sangiao, a former mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter before becoming a coach in 2006, believes that his wards featherweight Mark Eddiva and flyweight Roldan “The Executioner” Sangcha-an would emerge victorious against their respective foreign rivals and make their compatriots proud.

“I just told them that they should fight with enough pride. Some people are doubting them if they really belong to the Olympics of MMA which is the UFC,” Sangiao told The Manila Times in a phone interview. “This is the right time to prove that they really belong in the UFC.”

Eddiva, 29, has a replacement foe after his original opponent Alex White got injured. He will battle instead American Levan “The Hornet” Makashvili (6-1 win-loss fight record) while Sangcha-an will fight Jon Delos Reyes of Guam.

“So far, so good the training of our fighters is all okay. I’m confident Mark [Eddiva] would win and Roldan also. But we’re giving Roldan a confidence boost before the fight although we’re convinced that he can make it. They are all in good condition,” he added.

Besides the homegrown Filipino fighters from Team Lakay, Filipino-American middleweight fighter Mark “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” Muñoz (13-6) will fight a farewell match against Englishman Luke Barnatt (8-2).

Another Filipino-American, Phillipe “Super” Nover (10-5-1), will meet The “Korean Bulldozer” Yui Chul Nam (18-4) in a lightweight bout.

In the main event, No. 3 bantamweight contender Urijah “The California Kid” Faber (32-7) will take on No. 2 featherweight contender Frankie “The Answer” Edgar (18-4-1).
