The Philippine karate team pocketed two gold, two silver and seven bronze medals in the Thailand Open Karatedo Championships held at the Huamark Indoor Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Loue Jane Remojo and Rita Alexis Cuadra led the country’s campaign when they won gold medals in their respective divisions.
Remojo topped the female 15-16 kata event while Cuadra dominated the female kumite under-43-kilogram weight class.
Cherry Rodriguez (female 15-16 kata) and Michael John Badil (male kumite -75 kgs. kumite) claimed the silvers while Margarette Abba (female 10-11 kata), Enrich Napa (male 10-11 kata), Jaime Villegas (male kata), Enrich Napa (male kumite), Crystal Beldas (female kumite -47 kgs.), Bryan Fontillas (+84 kgs boys kumite), and Remojo (-53kgs kumite) were the bronze medalists.
“We are very happy in the Philippine Karatedo Federation (PKF) because of our successful campaign in the Thailand Open. The team always perform well to give pride to our nation,” said PKF secretary-general Raymund Lee Reyes in an interview with The Manila Times on Monday.
Recently, the PKF-La Salle Team won 25 medals including six gold, 11 silver and eight bronze in the 10th Korea Open International Karatedo Championships held in Gyeonggi, South Korea.
