Pinoy master to compete in American chess tourney


VETERAN campaiger Dioniver Medrano will represent the country in the prestigious 2015 Annual American Chess Tournament late this year in California, US.

Medrano has been invited to participate in the annual chess meet following his impressive showing in the Government Corporations Athletic Association tournament.

He bagged a silver medal in the individual category.

“I am determined to surpass my previous respectable campaign in the tournament, that acknowledge the potential of Filipinos in the chess,” said Medrano.

The tournament will be participated by invited rated players from host US and some wood pushers from Europe and Asia.

According to American Open event organizer Alfred Ong, the tournament will be held on November 26 to 29 at the Double¬tree Hotel in Ana¬heim,Orange in California.

“It’s a great honor to be invited and represent our country once again in the Annual American Open playing alongside world class players from around the globe. My target this year is to make it to the Top 3,” said Medrano.

“I still have a few months to prepare and I’m looking forward to a fruitful campaign this time. I would also like to thank the organizers for giving me another chance to showcase the potential of Filipino chesser,” he added.
