The Philippine Dragon Boat Federation (PDBF) copped three gold medals, one silver medal and two bronze medals in the 5th Korea Open Busan International Dragon Boat Festival held over the weekend at the Suyeong River Naru Park Haeundae in South Korea.
The PDBF Sinag-Perlas dominated the mixed 1000-meter Standard Boat event after checking in at four minutes and 41.28 seconds, beating silver medallist Macau (4:42.08) and bronze winner Russia (4:44.28).
The Filipino paddlers continued their impressive run as they ruled the women’s 500m Small Boat in 2:52.09. South Korea placed second (3:07.68) and China wound up third (3:11.61).
The PDBF Sinag-Perlas nailed its third gold by topping the women’s 200m Small Boat in 1:03.03, edging Hong Kong (1:04.07) and South Korea (1:05.79), which ended second and third, respectively.
“Sinag-Perlas is composed of highly-trained and well-experienced paddlers both in the local and international scene. These paddlers come from different club teams under the stewardship of Philippine Dragon Boat Federation (PDBF),” according to the PDBF statement.
The Philippines also earned silver in the mixed 500m Standard Boat (2:21.10) and bronzes in the mixed 200m Standard Boat (53.41) and mixed 200m Small Boat (57.81).
