• Pinoy pug bows to Japanese


    DAVAO CITY: Filipino boxer Jeffrey “The Bull” Arienza failed to bag the vacant WBO Asia Pacific super lightweight title after losing to Japanese Akihiro Kondo by an 11th-round technical knockout during Tuesday’s bout at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Arienza was stopped by Kondo in 1:20 of the 11th round. Kondo dominated the first 10 rounds, with the three judges scoring it all in his favor—Takeo Harada (99-91), Surat Soikrachang (97-93) and Mekin Sumon (97-93). The 31-year-old Kondo now has a record of 26 wins with 13 knockouts against only six losses and one draw. The native of Kazo, Saitama, Japan is also a former Japanese super lightweight champion.
